The Problem

Over 2.8 million children have lost one or both parents.

Nearly 840,000 are double orphans, left without either parent

The COVID-19 pandemic worsened the crisis, leaving over 150,000 children orphaned and more than 207,000 without a primary caregiver.

For these children, losing a parent is just the beginning. Without stable family care, they face increased risks of poverty, malnutrition, abuse, and exploitation. Many grow up without the love, safety, and belonging every child deserves.

At Tswalo House, we aim to change this NARRATIVE.

Every child is valuable, made in the IMAGE of God, deserving of a loving home.

Our mission is to RESTORE hope, dignity, and belonging, giving children the care, protection, and love they need to thrive.

What We Do

At Tswalo House, we aim to change this narrative. Every child is valuable, made in the image of God, deserving of a loving home. Our mission is to restore hope, dignity, and belonging, giving children the care, protection, and love they need to thrive.

Who are we?

Tswalo House is a temporary home for orphaned and abandoned babies, providing specialised short-term care 24/7 for newborns and young infants. We currently care for six little ones, supported by two full-time House Parents and eight dedicated staff members working in shifts to ensure every child is nurtured and surrounded by love. Volunteers and visitors also help, because it truly takes a village to raise a child.

Our work is guided by compassion, dignity, and a commitment to holistic care—emphasising every child’s physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.
